Hong Kong, a well-developed and affluent society, no one could imagine there are still minority groups in society stuffing from living in such small and bad environment, a flat with only 150-200 square-foot and it is only a space barely sufficient for a bed and a table, seen from the photos above. It is so ridiculous, sad, and irritated.
These series of photos indicate two huge social problems hidden behind, which they are: huge poverty gap and insufficient residential supply from Hong Kong government. These two photos show there are some lower class in the society, such as the elderly, the teenagers, and even the poor families, they are so poor which they cannot afford to buy a flat or pay the high rental of an ordinary flat, forcing them to move into a subdivided unit.
Worse still, they are being marginalized by the society, the Hong Kong government has no intention to launch some measures to solve this problem. Obviously the reason why the rental prices of residential area keeps rising is mainly because of the huge demand of properties from Mainlanders. Hong Kong government should regulate the number of Mainlanders for buying the properties. On the other hand, Hong Kong government should provide affordable public housing to Hong Kong people. It is the obligation of Hong Kpng Government to provide a safe and comfortable living environment to its citizens.
