To use an interesting way to tell a story, the cartoonist uses a map to present the dialogues between Matt and Jessica as well as the setting of the house.

In the map, “United States of Jessica” and “Republic of Matt” represent that the territories belong to Matt and Jessica respectively. The dotted lines within the territory indicate the different parts of the house. There is a study room, dining room and kitchen in Matt’s areas while upstairs studio and terrace are situated in Jessica’s areas.

Besides, the yellow and red routes symbolize their activities in the house. The black spots show exactly  where they are. Matt moves from his Desk to the refrigerator whereas Jessica is working on the drafting table. The intersections of two paths imply the conversation between Matt and Jessica.

It seems to me that the route color shows the energy level of Matt and Jessica. The yellow route represents the roadway and the red route with a sign 115 km/h represents the highway. Since both Matt and Jessica are working, they are very tired and not energetic, which is represented as yellow routes. When Jessica asks Matt a question, he suddenly wakes up and becomes energetic again, which is represented as red routes.

At the end of the story, Matt finally stops in front of the refrigerator and he does not know what he is looking for. So, his route becomes yellow again and eventually fades out in the desert, implying that he has the blurred memory and can find nothing in the refrigerator.

For me, this is a very interesting presentation of the comic dialogues and setting. Yet,  people perhaps do not understand this picture if they do not read the orginal version of the comic.
